The Universe and Miles

Hello Beautiful Ones,

It’s been a minute and it’s been a lifetime since we’ve seen or spoken to you last. Each day we cherish our learnings through this haze of grief and each day we are so thankful to have you all with us. Miles would not want it any other way, and he is with us too.  With love, he is everywhere.

David, Izzy and I are are working diligently on not just surviving this year of inconceivable firsts, but to also not allow our wishes of the “before times” to act as a detriment to our growth. Absolutely everything is the first time without Miles, so with full immersion we carry him with us. It's admittedly a walk in the mud with weighted shoes.  The three of us are processing differently yet very much together, each day there is slow seemingly imperceptible growth into our new future story.  Time alone does not necessarily aid in our healing, it’s what is happening in those endless profoundly heart-shattering moments that count the most.

Please know we cherish all of you so dearly and the support that you have generously taken the time to send our way. Both physically and in your thoughts, we have taken you in.   Your gifts of love sometimes land in our frail and open hands and we may not have the strength to thank you immediately.  Like a feather gently falling into water, we graciously absorb the empowerment of your love and generosity. You are the heartbeat of our village that we are re-building in honor of Miles.  One feather at a time.  The alter in the front of the house reverberates with your collective energy.   It's filled with light, plants, letters, books, candles, paper cranes and rainbows that refract and bounce off the moveable disco ball.  We cherish when the sun hits in the right places of course.  Giving credit to Miles for the perfect rainbow placements.

Once our website is completed completed we will ask all folks who are planting trees or plants in Miles’ honor to please send us GPS locations and we plan to keep track of all the growth in his honor.  Talk to me about his soil. So far we have pins from the Umpqua National Forest, the Olympic Peninsula, Big Island Hawaii, Okeefenokee Swamp in Georgia, Jenner, Santa Rosa and Petaluma, and we have only just begun.

Until the site is completed, please join us today for a story about our boy. https://earthfuneral.com/obituary/miles-kintz-12102022/

Some people call them obituaries, we can call it whatever the fuck we want.  The Earth Funeral website will ask you to create a log-in but it’s super easy peasy and worth it.  (I will send a public version to the local paper which I am sure will be distilled and shortened).  There is a direct link to plant a tree for free in Miles’ honor through One Tree Planted, which is amazing.  Head to their website if you’d like to plant more! Additionally, the photos are interactive and plentiful. We greased the cogs with a handful of captured moments but they, by NO means, represent all the beauty and loved ones in Miles’ orbit.   Please add your photos if so inclined ;)

In June, beautiful Bernie and I breathed some life into the Miles Kintz Memorial Scholarship.  We presented to the first recipients at Spreckles Performing Arts Center at the Movement Lab's June performances.  It was a very difficult feat of strength to step on the very stage that Miles performed on for so many years.  Bernie gave birth to her gorgeous baby Blake just days prior, she is my true inspiration!  A massive heart felt THANK YOU to all who have donated! We will continue with updates after summer break and maternity leave. I posted the story on socials but realize not everyone sees these posts, so please read the details on Insta  or FB so you can learn more about the amazing first recipients.  (flyer is attached as well)

Understandably this is a lot to process, so channeling Miles, please take it in at your own pace.  In the meantime, eat all your lunches at Lunchette, buy your flowers from the Flower Casita, plan your events at Monkey Ranch, buy every ticket and album from Sean HayesMarty O’ReillyRoyal Jelly JiveJalehArann HarrisWillow and Hound, let Diversified produce your shows, send your kids to Cherry Valley, dance at The Movement Lab and hug the shit out of each other.

Nothing is as it was and everything different it shall be.

With all our love,

Laura, David, Izzy and especially Miles

** I am trying my best to make sure this gets to all of our friends and family, please forward to those I may have missed.
