”I no longer let myself become anything but exactly who I am and who I want to be. All my life I had an intense desire to find purpose and that desire led me to places and people I could never imagine. Most of all it showed me the truth about who I really am.”

Miles, 17

Miles is and always was an insatiable, curious mind with the honest embodiment of a boundaryless heart. What would this child of the universe want us to do in the wake of his earthly exit?

An impossibility when a life this vivacious leaves us to the confines of our human sorrow, but grow we must. We have no choice. We honor him by living as he did. Be kind he would say, be your imperfect self. Feel love and joy, give love, be wild, expand your mind and let curiosity be the best of you.

So grow we will. Each minute, each day, each month, each year an eternity. One footstep, one breath, one sunrise at a time.

Let’s find him in the trees

Miles was a writer.

He had a profound way of sharing his wonders of the world and the intricate appreciations of his heart with words. Navigating the complexities of being a non-traditional learner, he found a way to express these words through song, conversation, art, keyboard and pen.

Catapulted into the desperation of losing him, as a community we all became writers. Love infused letters of support, gut wrenching speeches, phone calls with loved ones, words unsaid in the darkest hours and the stories yet to unfold.

Write we will.

“In Honor of Miles” were the first public words I felt driven to write for his Celebration of Light and Love program. On this quest to navigate grief, I’ve been writing periodic email updates to our loved ones. Find them as blogs here…

Every speck of sand, every leaf, every tree, every human, animal, insect, bird, and creature of the sea, every refraction of light, every musical note, every beat, every mushroom spore, every drop of water, every vibration, every thump of his heart.

Miles is everything and everything is he. Always was always will be.
